1968 Austin Mini Cooper Mk2 998cc ex-Historic rally car.

Ex-historic rally car, purchased new by Richard “Dick” Mayo, the infamous rally driver, so infamous that the Mayo Stages Rally and Dick Mayo Memorial Sprint are today both named in tribute to the great man.
Richard was also well known in the classic car scene as the elected Director of the all important UK Motorsport Association, (Such was previously named the RAC Motorsport Association (1979-1998) & The Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association (1998 -2020).

Retired from rallying after a short period and stored ever since (for over forty years) during which time it has had a full nut and bolt restoration.

Just 6000 miles on the speedometer. Being off the road since nearly new we can't validate this, but it makes sense.
One previous keeper (Dick Mayo), then his friend Alan for over 40 years.

40 year nut and bolt restoration (75+ photographs) with a commitment to originality, heritage panel work and all new mechanical parts including all new hydrolastic suspension components. Concourse underneath, see the pictures.
Supplied ready to enjoy with 12 months MOT, fully serviced and professionally tuned twin carburettors. Also MOT exempt (MOT not required), tax exempt (free road tax) and ULEZ exempt, saving you money.

The only drawback is that the upper body has been handprinted using coach enamel (the old fashioned way). This gives it an uneven finish and one might assume an abundance of filler. That being said, the photographic restoration shows 100’s of hours of welding in new metalwork and would put this assumption to bed (see links). The finish is Marmite, subjectively I like it, but others won’t. Our bodyshop have quoted £2000-2500 to put it right, but we decided to leave this up to the new owner.
