1998 Rover Mini Cooper (Genuine Cooper) 1.3 MPI 62bhp in Metallic Volcano Orange - One of the Best Surely, Full Nut & Bolt Rebuild to Immaculate Condition, Genuine Low Miles, Exceptional History From New and One of the Most Sought After Models & Colours

This is an exceptional example. She is exceptional because she is a nut and bolt rebuilt (generally like new), genuine low mileage (58,000 miles) example of one of the most sought after models (1998 Rover Mini Genuine Cooper 1.3 MPI 63bhp) in the most sought after colour (Rover Metallic Volcano Orange) and a Mini with a full traceable paper history from new which includes five keepers (four female, one garage), lots of specialist maintenance and around £6-8k of recent receipts.

The nut and bolt rebuild speaks for itself; she is rust free, like new underneath and you would struggle to find a Mini in superior condition. Being initially completed by a professional company, the previous keepers husband has taken it to a new level. Underneath is like new.

Why is she one of the most sought after models? The final Cooper  (1997-2000) was safer, more reliable and more powerful than earlier models, it was also comfier, better equipped for longer drives and greener than earlier models. Safer because it is the only model with door safety beams, driver airbag, SRS and immobiliser. More reliable because the problematic, old fashioned carburettor, manual choke and distributor were replaced with more reliable modern fuel injection technology. More powerful because the earlier 50-53hp 1275cc engine was replaced with a 63hp 1300cc engine. Comfier because the interior evolved to incorporate much higher quality materials, more seat bolsters and wooden dashes. Better equipped for longer drives because a different ratio gearbox was utilised, more sound deadening added and mechanical revisions made to further reduce sound. Greener because she has better fuel consumption, sensors, fuel injection and a catalytic converter.

Condition Notes

I love this Mini. I think that if you viewed it then you would love it too. However, my job is to be picky and so here’s some pickiness.

Driving her, she’s excellent and everything works. She is supplied with 11 months MOT with no advisories, fully serviced and ready to enjoy. Her cylinder head has recently been rebuilt, linkages replaced and she has a new clutch, cat and Yokohama tyres all around as well as around £6-8000 of recent receipts for anything and everything.

Looking at her, underneath everything is new or refurbished. Proper sills etc. Exactly what you want to see. Looking at her shell, her shell is excellent; it would be very hard to find one better. Were we to be picky there is a small, teeny tiny paint run just above the rear drivers wheel arch but that’s the least of our concerns really isn’t it and besides, it would actually be covered up and hidden if we were to fit the standard wheel arch rubber trim. Since the pictures we have changed the front passenger wing vinyl stripe sticker to make it straighter (as it was slightly offset in the photographs) so that’s not an issue now. Most, if not all, of her chrome is brand new.

Inside her, you have the original sought after Cooper interior (albeit, it has minor signs of use). New headlining and sound proofing, new carpets. Under the carpets everything is new floor wise. She has a proper wooden dash (thick wood) that maybe could be varnished to a shine if you wanted. One negative, she still has her windscreen first fitted in 2005 (good point), however viewed from the inside she has started to get that old cloudy look around the outer edge; if it bothered you then you could replace it with a new one for £100-150.

Supplied new on the 24th of August 1998 to a Miss Young of Glasgow by D Morrison & Sons of Falkirk, Shona would own her for nine years and cover 27,000 miles. First using Rover, she would later use the South Side Mini Centre of Glasgow for all her maintenance. Purchasing her in 2007, Ms Kelly Meller her second owner who’m also lived in Glasgow and owned her for four years  covered a further 12,000 miles approximately and continued using South Side Mini Centre. Purchasing her in 2011, Mrs Terry Walker took her all the way to Dartmouth! In Dartmouth she covered another 17,000 miles whilst being maintained by Tupman’s Mini’s and then later restored by David May Restorations of Ivybridge in 2017. It wasn’t until Simon Jones of Preston purchased her in 2020 that the finishing touches were put upon her, Simon spent thousands of pounds (huge amounts) and hundred of hours finishing her off for his wife who just used her to drive to school and back and for a wedding (teacher). She’s covered no more than 500 miles since the restoration and has remained garaged in immaculate condition.

Her history folder is huge and from new with at least £6-8k spent within the last 500 miles. She even retains all her old tax discs and service books. She is HPI clear and has never ben involved in an accident.
