(TD5) 2000 Land Rover Defender 110 County 4x4 11 Seater, Finished in British Racing Green & Adventure Ready!

Being the sought after TD5, having been very much cherished throughout her life and having a comprehensive maintenance history as well as the heritage style interior with 12 seats plus all the windows and an excellent chassis, this is a great example of a Defender (albeit a Defender and 20 years old, with age related imperfections all round as you find with Defenders). I'll expand upon each point in turn and expand upon my ownership, beginning with her service history folder and proceeding to ger condition.

1. Comprehensive Service History Folder, Beautiful to Drive

Driving beautifully (as beautifully as a Defender can), she has a comprehensive history file and service history from new. Such comprehensive history includes being maintained by Swinfield Cooper Land Rover Specialists of Leicester throughout the last five years on what appears to be a no cost basis, it includes tens of thousands of pounds worth of invoices including a new camshaft, prop-shaft, rocker shaft, dual mass flywheel and recently new brake components and tyres all round and just handful of inner city non-agricultural owners. She drives beautifully and is supplied with 12 months MOT with no advisories,.

2. Excellent Interior, Very Comfortable

Being fitted with the Land Rover Heritage style interior (recently purchased for £1250), two rear bench seats with seatbelts (eleven seats in total, six seat belts in the boot) and finished with a classic steering wheel, USB radio and Land Rover Matt’s and the factory sunroof, she’s just a nice place to be. She has the roof side windows, the rear boot windows and an optional extra sunroof so lots of sun light.

3. Solid Underneath

Having had a good poke around underneath, she is very solid. Everything you want to see. We were going to re-underseal her, however decided not to so not to hinder any new purchasers investigations.

So if you would like a Defender which has been comprehensively maintained and looked after (unlike most), a Defender that is quite classy and quite charming inside (unlike most) and a Defender that is solid underneath, then this could be the Defender for you.

My History with the Defender

We restore classic Mini’s and I always wanted to have that iconic Defender experience since I was a child (dad had one). Purchasing her from her previous owner, an elderly accountant in Leicester who’m had owned her for five years and had very meticulously maintained her (despite having three or four cars) I knew I had found the one. By a good one I mean that she is mechanically really good, properly maintained and a very charming place to be, not that she has perfect bodywork because she has age related marks as all Defenders will. Since purchasing her I have done three or four thousand miles and she hasn’t once let me down. Those miles have been mainly motorway miles and remarkably, she’s a very comfortable, quite quiet place to be at 70mph on a motorway and that was not expected. Also the 30-40mpg ish wasn’t expected.

For anyone that hasn’t owned a Defender, they aren’t like any other cars. They drive like a classic car, a classic car where you can feel the drive, every bit of the drive. They aren’t fast, but interestingly this makes you enjoy it even more... you just trundle along and appreciate it for what it is, a classic. One day you will have to mount a curb to allow someone through and you will feel great. Maybe on the same day you pack 10 of your mates in and again, the bench seats are a laugh.

Recently I have stopped driving as much. When I do drive it’s usually a 200-400 mile round trip to see a classic car collection and setting off at 6pm at night. The Defenders been great, but I have bought a T5 camper which is more suitable and I can't keep both. I've still been using the Defender, but less so.

Condition Report

She drives perfectly and everything works, including her 4x4 system. Underneath she is excellent. I took her for her MOT and she passed without any advisories.

That being said she is a Defender and Defender's have Defendery issues that they all suffer. Like most Defenders she has a tiny oil leak (you won't notice it initially, but you would if you left it standing for a week). During a recent almost biblical storm (absolutely crazy, Noah's Ark style) she had a small drip from her sunroof and front vents so I fitted new vents seals and paid a friend to reseal her sunroof. She didn't leak at the car wash so I assume that's fixed. Due to Defenders size and aluminium panels they do inevitably have small dings around them and oxidisation after 22 years, but relative to other unrestored examples she's really good. There is some lacquer peel to the front of her roof and if you wanted to fix this I had a £300 quote to paint this.

  • We guarantee that your Mini will be mechanically perfect at the time of the sale. Mechanically perfect means that your Mini will be roadworthy with a recent MOT, that everything on your Mini will work correctly and that your Mini will be ready to enjoy.

However, it is important to note that Mini's are classic cars opposed to brand new cars, classic cars will have wear and tear on all parts opposed to being built to a new standard and accordingly they  will require ongoing maintenance and we cannot be held liable for any ongoing maintenance after the time of the sale. That being said, we have a dedicated phone line to assist you in maintaining your Mini and sourcing replacement parts.
