Genuine 1997 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 MPI 63bhp Finished in Metallic Volcano Orange & White (The Most Sought After Colour Combination)We're selling this Mini on behalf of a customer. This is a genuine 1997 (May Registered) Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 MPI 63bhp (the model with the ultimate specification) in one of the rarest and most sought after colour schemes (metallic Volcano Orange) which has been owned by the current keeper David for 4 years. David and his son had matching Mini’s and would drive regularly, however has had to sell for personal reasons. She’s a great driving car in average condition for her age.
1. The Ultimate Factory Specification
Paraphrasing from several official records and well reputed books, the final Mini models (produced between 1997-2000 and commonly known as the “MPI Mini’s” were the ultimate classic Mini’s. These Mini’s were designed by Rover to give more than ever before and designed to solidify the classic Mini’s place as a British icon in order to rocket fuel the sale of the modern Mini which arrived shortly thereafter.
Why were these the ultimate Mini’s? Well there’s broadly six reasons, those reasons are that they are; more powerful, more reliable, better for motorway driving, higher quality, safer and greener. I’ll very briefly expand upon each as this is a question that we are asked a lot:
- (a) More powerful because they have 20% more horsepower as standard (63bhp) compared to the earlier 1275cc models (50-53hp) and 50% more horse power when compared to the earlier 1000cc (39hp). Such output when combined with their 700kg weight and exceptional renowned rally winning handling provides for terrific and/or terrifying fun;
- (b) More reliable because the troublesome earlier carburettor, distributor and manual choke are replaced with modern multi-point fuel injection, dual spark technology and automatic choke. Such modern reliability breeds further reliability still they are usually more factory original and well built, not modified or messed with;
- (c) Better for motorway driving not just because they have more power but they also have more sound deadening, a revised gearbox ratio and new mechanical layout to reduce driving noise (earlier Mini’s roar on the motorway);
- (d) Higher quality because the interior evolved, it had a higher quality dash and steering wheel and seats, higher quality gauges etc. New factory options were available such as the Sportspack.
- (e) Safer because they have a drivers airbag, door safety crash bars and inertia seatbelts as well as SRS.
- (f) Greener because they had a catalytic converter as standard and lower revs.
So all round, the ultimate Mini spec wise.
2. Driving BeautifullyPlaying with 63bhp, just 650-700kg in weight and rally winning handling, she is terrific fun to drive.3. Ready to Enjoy
Being supplied fully serviced with a recent MOT and no advisories, she is ready to be enjoyed. The service included new Millers classic mini oil, NGK spark plugs and silicone HT leads.4. ConditionBeing in average condition for her age, she has some marks and small Mini bubbles (under drivers headlight and scuttle panel) as you would expect. That being said what a fantastic price considering that mint examples fetch £15,000+. Use her in average condition, or spend £500-750 on perfecting her bodywork and we feel that you would have a bargain and a great investment.She was involved in an accident in 2008 (category C) and then fully restored with photographs (although has aged a little since).

1997 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 MPI 63bhp
We guarantee that your Mini will be mechanically perfect at the time of the sale. Mechanically perfect means that your Mini will be roadworthy with a recent MOT, that everything on your Mini will work correctly and that your Mini will be ready to enjoy.
However, it is important to note that Mini's are classic cars opposed to brand new cars, classic cars will have wear and tear on all parts opposed to being built to a new standard and accordingly they will require ongoing maintenance and we cannot be held liable for any ongoing maintenance after the time of the sale. That being said, we have a dedicated phone line to assist you in maintaining your Mini and sourcing replacement parts.
