1987 Austin Mini - 1 of 57 Remaining Wimbledon Special Editions - 1275cc RestoMod
This is a special all-white Wimbledon edition launched to celebrate the Tennis in 1987. These editions are very rare with only 57 remaining. Its a beautiful example, the colour combination is striking.
Behind the Wheel
Fitted with the sought-after, high-performance, 1275cc manual engine, combining raw-power with that iconic, Monte-Carlo rally-wining classic Mini handling, makes for a terrific and/or terrifying drive for those who can hold their nerve.
Prodding her throttle delivers a beautiful roar, her carburettor creates those nostalgic sounds and smells of the sixties, her engine has this week been wonderfully tuned by a well known classic-car tuner, optimising her power. Engaging each gear effortlessly, shifting smoothly, without sounds or tension, she doesn’t suffer the usual gear-box wear.
She is supplied with 12 months MOT and no advisories, freshly comprehensively serviced to include her engine and gearbox, her brakes have all been serviced and her cooling system has been flushed. Her clutch feels recently replaced, her tyres are recently new.
Upgrades
Mechanical-upgrades include HI-Lo’s so that you can adjust and play with her ride-height, adjustable tie-bars for dynamic tyre-geometry and a stainless-steel sports exhaust for much-improved gas-flow and that classical roar. Most importantly, an electronic-ignition for straight-forward starting.
Exterior-upgrades include the iconic factory Sportspack surrounding brand new thirteen x seven inch deep-dish alloy-wheels, providing this extraordinary width-to-height boxy, very nineteen-eighties ratio. She is finished with halogen headlights for improved visibility.
Factory extras include rear-seat-belts, opening-rear windows and a heated-rear-windscreen. Her interior is otherwise completely custom
Soon to be Tax & MOT Exempt
Being an early example, she will be tax and mot exempt within two-three years, saving you time and money.
Her Story
First purchased by Daphne Tippett of Tamworth from Bole Bridge Garage on the 1st of August 1987, on the radio Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up was charting and The Bangles Walk Like an Egyptian was released, in the cinemas Dirty Dancing, The Princess Bride and Spaceballs were released and Ronald Reagan delivered his famous speech to tear down the Berlin Wall.
She would have a long-life, cover just over 100,000 miles without any known accidents (HPI clear) and collect a large history folder, before being restored, fitted with a new engine and placed into storage in 2021. This year I have re-commissioned her, brought her back into the world, this Mini needs to be seen and driven.
Condition
Otherwise, she isn’t brand new and I don’t think anyone is expecting her to be, there’s a few small Mini bubbles hidden here and there, the standard classic Mini slight oil leak, being an early Mini, without a brake servo, her brakes are less effective, Some may wish to fit a stick-on radio windscreen antenna for the radio (£5) or wire-up her additional aftermarket central gauges. All of these these felt unnecessary.
Viewing is available any-time, day or night, week-day or weekend in Sheffield. We can arrange delivery throughout the UK.
