1973 Morris Mini Clubman 1275GT (Genuine).

This is a striking and iconic Morris Mini Clubman 1275GT (genuine) from a friends collection. Our friend Robert has essentially built his own classic Mini factory within his barn from which he completely rebuilds two to three Mini’s per year and has done so for over a decade. Drawing on that experience, Robert partially rebuilt this 1275GT for himself four years ago for his own daily use. Building her for himself, she is a striking and iconic example that drives beautifully, but retains some patina on bolt on parts, she is awesome and ready to use, but not concourse by design. We have had her professionally tuned, fully serviced and she will be supplied with 12 months MOT with no advisories. She is MOT and Tax exempt in any case as she is going to be celebrating her fiftieth birthday within the coming year! We will expand more upon each point below. She is priced to sell (Christmas liquidity) with other road going examples ranging from £14,995-34,995 online and absolute project cars in parts at around £9995.

1. Striking and Iconic Colour Combination

Being finished in one of the most sought after colour combinations of Metallic Blue and Gold, she is a striking and very iconic example.

2. Beautiful to Drive

Whilst standing out, she also drives beautifully, matching her 1275cc engine with rally winning handling and only 650-700 kg in weight, providing for terrific and/or terrifying fun.

3. Professionally Tuned

Having recently had her professionally tuned, her performance has been optimised.

4. Fully Serviced

Supplying her fully serviced with new Millers Classic Mini Oil and Filter, NGK Spark Plugs and Silicone HT Leads she is ready to enjoy.

5. MOT & Tax Exempt

Being a historic vehicle she is MOT and Tax Exempt which means that she does not require either an MOT or road tax for road use and accordingly she is a low effort, low cost classic.

6. Recent MOT with No Advisories

Despite being MOT exempt, we will arrange for 12 months MOT (voluntarily) as soon as the MOT stations re-open, so you can feel re-assured that she is safe and roadworthy.

7. Fantastic Investment

Having doubled and tripled in price within the last five to ten years, 1275GT’s represent an excellent investment. Looking at the market these are generally priced between £14995 and £34,995 for a road going car and £9995 for a project in bits so do grab a bargain. We could do with some liquidity at this time of year.

8. Solid

Her upper shell is in really nice condition. Rob hasn’t restored her per-se underneath, but just stripped any corrosion and fitted new parts as and where required. Underneath Rob hasn’t done much except fit a new rear subframe and one outer sill. Her inner sills seem to be original and excellent. Her outer sills are solid, however one is an over-sill (fitted by Rob) and the other does not match, but remains solid. It should also be noted that she was re-shelled in 1985 into a later shell and we believe her colour was changed from yellow to blue.

9. Design & Specification

Building her for himself, Rob has designed the build and built her to his own specification for road use. Such specification includes a fantastic engine, an excellent body and many mechanical upgrades. Upgrades include both the front and rear coil spring conversion and HiLo ’s for better stabilisation and a brake servo for more stopping power. Many of her original bolt on parts have been retained which have some patina.

Whilst my job is to be critical, I love her as she is, she is an excellent example and after all it is her fiftieth birthday next year! However if you wanted to improve upon her you might consider:

(a) Her seats would benefit from being re-dyed (£10-15 on Ebay) and there are two small tears which could be sown. Alternatively, Clubman seats are often sold on various marketplaces for £150-250 and they could be upgraded, but it really isn’t necessary.

(b) When re-open (mechanics wise) in the New Year we are going to fit a new drive shaft oil seal as the current one has a minor oil leak.

(c) Her bolt on parts are original and have patina by design, we love this. But if you are looking for a concourse show winning example you may want to see some of the others available on Ebay at higher prices.
